Apologies for that. It was caused by a spammer who sent a PM to everyone on the user list. I deleted the user, which in turn deleted the spam PMs. But by that point, the notification e-mails had already went out.
The mods I've made to this board stop most spammers (we used to get way more than we do now), but occasionally one still gets through.
Makes me wonder, though: how many on the user list still use their old e-mail addresses? This place has been mothballed for years, but I've been kicking around the idea of doing a small, simple relaunch for the site's 10th anniversary next year. If I do, I'll probably send out an announcement to all the addresses in the user db.
