I'll second Kare Kano and throw in Onegai Teacher. It was these two series that convinced me that it's possible to do a romance story properly in the first place.

i never cry when my father pass away, nor when my best friend died in front of me when i was 14, i cry after the ending of Saishuuheiki Kanojo, it was so sad yet so beautiful
this show is romance, drama, mecha, action pack, etc... all in one
damn, my gf bet that i will be "move" by this show......... better not let her know i cry

I've read some of Kare Kano, and liked it, sorta. Well, the anime was weird, and perhaps even second rate. But the characters were interesting, a little extreme though. Never really being popular, nor do we have "the kool" group over here. We only have alternative groups here; gothics, nerds, guitar rock people, rappers, druggos, etc. Of coarse, each group is way less extreme than what is first presumed. We generally end up moulding into one congregation; neither of us caring about our individual differences. But that's beside the point, Kare Kano is a good read, however, I've read really romantic ones that are way better, in a different language though. Perhaps it was the miss communication, and the fact that I had to now use my imagination to decipher the script, that made it all the better.

Onegai teacher was awesome, check it out.

Trying hard to get the fansubbed Kanon, can't wait for the R1 release, downloading is a pain in the ass even with broadband! Bittorrent is fecking slow isn't it? Oh, do you guys think it'll actually ever get a R1 release?

Kare Kano is indeed very good. There's a very nice humble feel to the mangas, its not all that polished and the style is a little hard to get on with, but Masami Tsuda just seems to be a really passionate kind of person, with a profound appreciation for all things creative; That I truely admire about her. (did you see that note in vol1 about an opera that really moved her?)

And just to contrast what Elipsis said, I actually think that KK is quite docile compared to the usual hyperactivity of the other titles out there. At least in the mangas anyway, there is a distinct lack of over the top faces, poses and almost completely void of any kind of slap stick violence!

If u want some romance anime well i think D.N.Angel is pretty sweet in romance but that begin like in half of the series. There is also Happy World, Ultra Maniac, love Hina,

i think I"s ova is also a romance anime but is not interesting (sorry to those who like it, but personaly that;s my opinon, sorry)

also i think the other anime is romantic however i haven't watched it before i only heard ppl talking about it. they are: Canvas ~Motif of Sepia~, Mamotte Shugogetten, Mahoromatic,

sorry i also forgot to mention Onegai Twins. i think that pretty funny and intertesting.sorry!! It's obvious but i think most of u no is that it is the same author of Onegai Teacher. and the teacher is also a character in Onegai Twins however is focus on 3 other ppl. U should give it a try. I think is pretty good. i haven't seen Onegai teacher before but i think is similar. i think! but it is a definalty an romance anime.
