Samurai 7

Just started watching it. Currently on only the second episode so I can't comment much on it. So far its got good action, and an interesting premise. The plot is based on the similar titled classic Japanese movie "Seven Samurai", which incidently I had just rented from Netflix recently based on a recommendation on their site. Basically, in a war torn country, not long after a big war, farmers are having almost all their food taken by bandits and face penalty of having their village raped and pillaged if they don't comply. So one small village knowing the bandits are coming soon and hearing of an incident in another village where they tried to keep some of the food they needed to eat, they decide to hire samurai (preferably hungry ones) to help protect the village.

The bandits happen to fly giant technological ships and giant samurai robots that operate in a kind of steam-punk/gundam-style fashion. You have to suspend disbelief a bit for the technology, but its a fun and interesting world. The samurai fought against these contraptions in the war so they have super-human samurai abilities capable of taking on these huge machines.

So far good action, the plot is probably at least as good as the movie even if its a rehashed version of it, it is a classic. Animation is good from my perspective(I'm no critic), and its got some cool CG for the battle scenes with the mecha.
